Business Meeting Supports the Arts for At-Risk Youth
Clearwater, Florida, May 19, 2016 (Newswire.com) - At the monthly business reception at the Scientology Information Center May 11, local business professionals took on the support of an art and music summer camp at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Community Center in Clearwater’s Greenwood neighborhood.
The camp is the creation of Harlem Nights President Maurice Mickens, who is bringing together a team of accomplished artists and musicians to provide lessons to Greenwood youth over the summer of 2016. The program aims to nurture children through the arts and keep them off the streets and out of trouble during the critical summer months.
The Scientology Information Center announced it will host a benefit concert to support the project. The concert will take place Saturday, June 4, from 6 to 8pm and will feature some of the accomplished young musicians from the Harlem Nights program.
“The children really appreciate having the opportunity to learn these skills,” says Mickens. “The funds will assist those families who cannot afford the camp but would like their children to participate.”
The monthly business receptions at the Scientology Information Center at the historic Bank of Clearwater building provide business professionals the opportunity to network and explore projects in support of local economic community development. The 26 businesspeople attending the May reception included restaurant owners, marketing and sales professionals, and members of the fashion and entertainment industries.
“We enjoy providing a venue which helps people to connect with other professionals, no matter what diverse fields people come from,” says Amber Skjelset, Scientology Information Center Manager.
The Scientology religion was founded by humanitarian and philosopher, L. Ron Hubbard. The first Church of Scientology was formed in the United States in 1954 and has expanded to more than 11,000 churches, missions and affiliated groups, with millions of members in 167 nations.
