C-Tech Innovation, the highly successful innovation services business, has expanded its Innovation, Science and Technology Facilities in Chester and to celebrate held a Champagne reception on the 11th November 2011.

The official opening was performed by MP Andrew Miller, Chair of the House of Commons Science & Technology Select Committee who shared his views on the importance of science and innovation to the North West economy. He told guests "Some of the processes and technologies we see here today, in a few years time we will take for granted." He went on to say how it was great to see so many HEIs (Higher Education Institutes) in attendance supporting local businesses and how in the current economy it is important for us to continue to invest in education, and that "The work that C-Tech Innovation is doing is hugely important to our economy".

The event included tours of the facilities, giving guests the opportunity to witness C-Tech Innovation's technological capabilities and see first-hand some of their exciting cutting-edge innovations, aimed at real-world applications.

C-Tech displayed some of the advancements they are performing in key areas including:

• Faster, more environmentally-friendly heating methods - Novel heating techniques that can rapidly and efficiently heat products much faster than conventional heating methods, saving money, energy and increasing quality.

• Harnessing natural energy - A low cost, environmentally sustainable and more efficient way of harnessing natural energy, solving the problem that has dogged energy from renewable sources in the past - intermittent energy supply. The development enables energy to be stored safely and efficiently until required.

• Innovative recycling processes - The use of ionic liquids in innovative recycling processes. This enables a range of polymers to be recovered from waste streams whilst using less energy, driving down costs.

• Improved energy efficiency - New furnaces demonstrating a step change in energy efficiency allowing a range of industrial applications such as, glass, cement and ceramic industries to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption, resulting in both economic and environmental benefits.

Ged Barlow, Managing Director at C-Tech Innovation told guests "We are absolutely delighted that Andrew (Miller) has been able to join us today to help us celebrate this important landmark in our history. We have made a significant investment in our facilities here in the North West and we look forward to continuing our exciting and innovative work in the future, working with local, regional and national organisations to improve their performance through innovation."
