Calibrate, Inc. Supports "Team InterMune" Fundraising for Bike 4 Breath 2010
Calibrate donates to six-time sponsor of Bay Area charity bike ride to promote lung health
Online, July 6, 2010 (Newswire.com) - RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, July 6, 2010 - Calibrate, Inc., a leading provider of on-site and mail-in pipette calibration services, today announced it will support InterMune as a corporate sponsor of Breathe California's 19th annual Bike 4 Breath, a charity bike ride that helps raise funds to fight lung disease, advocate for clean air, and promote public health in the greater Bay Area. Bike 4 Breath is Breathe California's largest and best attended fundraising event and will take place July 10 outside of the Life Technologies building in Foster City, California.
"InterMune has taken an active role in not only researching and developing innovative therapies in pulmonology, but also in helping to win the fight against lung disease. Over the last five years, InterMune has raised almost $300,000 in support of Breathe California's education and advocacy efforts," said Kyrus Caldwell, captain of "Team InterMune." "We rely on the support of vendors like Calibrate, our business partners, and other friends in helping us reach this year's fundraising goal of $50,000."
"Calibrate is committed to supporting health-related programs and events that are important to our customers and stakeholders," said Erin Lenhardt, director of marketing for Calibrate, Inc. "Team InterMune has gone above and beyond by helping with fundraising and providing riders and volunteers for Bike 4 Breath. Calibrate is proud to contribute to InterMune's efforts knowing that lung health and disease prevention awareness is being spread effectively throughout the community."
The event is expected to draw over 500 riders, including several well-known Bay Area residents who have been affected by lung disease such as "Team Second Wind" Captains Anabel and Isabel Stenzel, CBS5's Roberta Gonzales, and KFOG Morning DJ Irish Greg. Bike 4 Breath features four routes on the San Francisco Peninsula ranging from a 10 mile route to a 62 mile route for advanced bikers. Riders are rewarded with scenic views and rest stops along the way and afterward can enjoy an EXPO area with music, food and other family-friendly activities.
"We are thrilled that InterMune has been a huge supporter of the Bike 4 Breath ride. Their efforts and contributions will help us continue to offer important local programs to educate kids about smoking, promote air quality issues, and assist those suffering from lung disease," said Nicole Villanueva, special events manager at Breathe California. "This event is only as successful as the participation of our riders, donors, and volunteers so we could never do it without them."
InterMune employees will be participating in the ride, volunteering, and collecting donations on the day of the event.
