Call of the Wild Trek Commemorates 1st American Ascent of Annapurna

Call of the Wild Adventures will lead a trek to the Annapurna Base Camp of Nepal to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the first American team to summit the world's tenth highest mountain.

Call of the Wild Adventures, Inc., a leading provider of women's adventure vacations, will lead a trek to the Annapurna Base Camp of Nepal to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the first American team to summit the world's tenth highest mountain. Call of the Wild President, accomplished mountaineer and wilderness guide Emilie Cortes will guide the 17-day trek in November 2013.

Annapurna's 26,545-foot peak was first summited by an American team in 1978, led by mountaineering legend Arlene Blum. This team, Women's Himalayan Expeditions, was a pioneering group of female climbers who lived by the slogan "a woman's place is on top."

2013 also marks the 35th anniversary of Call of the Wild, the world's longest-running women's-only adventure travel company. Call of the Wild is a leader in providing challenging and transformative outdoor adventures to its U.S. and international clients. Founded by Carole Latimer, the company is now owned and managed by Emilie Cortes. After a successful 17-year career in finance, Ms. Cortes recently took over Call of the Wild to focus on her passion of empowering women and girls through positive outdoor experiences. A skilled mountaineer, Ms. Cortes has attempted some of the world's highest peaks including the 5th tallest, 27,825-foot Makalu.

To honor these important milestones, Ms. Cortes will guide an all-women group to the Annapurna Base Camp at 13,550 foot (4,130 m). The trek will be led in the original spirit of Arlene Blum, who wrote of the mountain: "Annapurna has become for me a metaphor for difficult and important goals. Striving to achieve such objectives draws on all of our abilities and brings out the best in us. There are still many 'Annapurnas' to be climbed in the world - such as protecting our natural environment; decreasing the gap between rich and poor; providing basic necessities for everyone on this planet; and raising our children to live with love and good values."

Limited spots are still available for the Annapurna trek, which will run from November 7 through November 23, 2013. Women with strong stamina, hiking experience, a flexible attitude, and a sense of adventure are encouraged to sign up at https://www.callwild.com/trip.php?id=66.
