Jazz singing workshop: Learn jazz in a wonderful farmhouse in the heart of Umbria, Italy
Online, January 31, 2012 (Newswire.com) - This workshop is open to anyone who wants to learn how to sing jazz or how to improve their jazz singing. This course is suitable for those who can already sing with some confidence but with no previous jazz experience.
You will:
be introduced to the subject with a brief history of jazz;
• listen analytically to some examples of various singers of the genre and have help identifying the various techniques they're using;
• learn vocal techniques used in jazz singing;
• introduction to the voice and how it's produced;
• vocal exercises;
• demonstrations of singing and performing jazz.
• Focusing on vocal technique, basic theory, ear training, vocal effects, improvisational ideas, singing through chord progressions, communicating with the band, finding the right keys to songs and arranging ideas to perform songs.
Students will have an opportunity to practice singing with a live jazz combo for part of the course, learn vocal interpretation and improvisation (scat), develop performance and microphone skills, and learn how to lead the band - all while activating the creative process. Through structured exercises, students apply what they have learned - culminating in a dinner-concert with a live trio piano accompaniment.
Course Requirements
• Portable equipment for recording the sessions for practice outside of class during the week
• Access to sheet music - songs will be determined as part of the class
• Textbook: None. There will be reading lists and repertoire lists as part of the course materials.
Workshop timetable : From Wednesday 13° june to Sunday 17° june, from 10am to 13 am and from 2pm to 3,30pm.
Location: The workshop will be in Umbria ( Itay) in the farmhouse "la volpe e l'uva"( www.agriturismovolpeuva.it), 4km far from Perugia. It is possible to have accommodation in the apartments of the farmhouse with very special rates!

Kris Adams: singer, vocalist and arranger. She was a member of the famed early 90's graduate school class at Boston's New England Conservatory that included friends and fellow vocalists Lisa Thorson, Patrice Williamson, and Luciana Souza.
A Professor at Berklee College of Music, Adams pushes the boundaries of traditional jazz vocals with her own inventive reharmonizations and arrangements as a working vocalist in Boston and beyond. Kris Adams has two CDs released on Jazzbird Records and is author of the book, "Sing Your Way Through Theory" (Gerard & Sarzin).
