Can Anyone Drive Your Car?
Online, November 28, 2011 (Newswire.com) - As the holiday period approaches where many of us will be driving long distances, more than half of QLD drivers aren't sure if they're covered for someone else to share the driving, according to new research from NRMA Insurance*.
"In our experience we know things come up and you might need someone to drive for you, which is why NRMA Insurance covers anyone who drives your car," said Mariana Cidade, spokesperson for NRMA Car Insurance.
"While awareness of whether comprehensive car insurance cover extends to unnamed drivers has doubled over the last year, the fact that more than half of Queenslanders aren't 100% sure still puts some drivers at risk.
"A lot of us are keen to reach our destinations this holiday season therefore we suggest you share the driving, especially since unfortunately, around one in five fatalities involve fatigue**.
"We recommend drivers who are unsure, or not insured with NRMA Insurance check if their cover extends to unnamed drivers, especially around the holiday season. For example, if you need to take a break you may need one of your passengers to take over for you," Ms Cidade said.
The research also showed that most QLD drivers either list themselves and one other on their policy (55%) or list themselves as the sole drivers of their car (25%).
NRMA Car Insurance recommends the following tips for QLD drivers over the holidays:
• Check who else can share the driving with you before setting off
• If you feel tired take a break
• If possible, share the driving with someone
