Can You Take The Turn Off The TV Week Challenge?

Paper crafting business owner provides families with suggestions about how to reconnect during this national week without television.

What role does television play in your life? In the life of your family?

Entertainer? Babysitter? Time-filler? Background noise?

Whatever role television plays for you, the non-profit
organization, TV-Free America, is asking the question, "Could you turn it off for a week and find other ways to fill those hours?"

And they're challenging everyone to do just that during Turn Off Your TV Week - April 18-24, 2011.

This isn't a "TV is evil" campaign. However, there are some facts and figures regarding the amount of time families spend watching television which may require some to re-evaluate their habits. For example, according to TV Turnoff Network, the average child watches television for 1,680 minutes per week, while only engaging their parents in "meaningful conversation" for 38.5.

The Challenge during 'Turn Off The TV Week' is for families to remove television from the equation and replace the time spent "watching" with time spent "doing."

If you are at a loss for creative ideas you and your family can undertake to replace your TV time, Andrea Walford, founder of Paper Crafters World, has some for you!

Paper crafting, particularly scrapbooking, is an excellent way to bring everyone together and work on a family project. She believes once you experience the fun and gratification of coming together as a family to work together on a project, they may find themselves doing it long after Turn Off Your TV Week is over!

"With my husband and I working full time, our family time is precious to us," says Walford. "While family movie night is a weekly event that we all look forward to, some of our best memories have come from turning off the TV and engaging in a crafting activity. We laugh, share and enjoy each other's company."

Scrapbooking isn't the only craft-related activity that families can enjoy together. To view samples of projects you and your family can create together, visit Andrea's website, http://www.papercraftersworld.com.

Andrea is also available for media interviews regarding Turn Off Your TV week, as well as the value of finding time to be actively engaged with family, rather than passively entertained by the television. Please use the contact information provided to schedule an interview.
