Canadian Telco Astraqom Discusses Wireless Spectrum Auction and Its Mobile Offerings
Online, March 18, 2012 (Newswire.com) - AstraQom, known as a pioneer in mixing mobile and social media platforms with its successful telecommunications services, is prepared to participate in recently announced wireless spectrum industry auction in Canada during the first two quarters of 2013.
The company sees the move as complementary to its existing strong offerings of mobile applications development and mobile voIP on all the most popular OS platforms in addition to its strong presence in Canadian and international telecommunications industry. Its wireless network plans will be able to take advantage of the windfall announcement on March 14, 2012, made by the Canadian federal government.
In order to direct and put to use a digital broadband wireless network, spectrum is required, licensed or unlicensed. The advantages of licensed 700-MHz airwaves include the predictable RF environment which is safeguarded from external interferences. Such a benefit will improve control over band management, security and speed. Privacy and remarkable production are positively augmented. The expansive propagation characteristics save money because fewer towers are needed, fewer right-of-ways to secure, height of towers is lessened, and even for example, vulnerability to lightning strikes is evident. The 700-MHz spectrum has the potential to increase business productivity and access to high definition video and video conferencing over mobile networks. Many of AstraQom organizational and entrepreneurial clients such as those who use or wish to use E-health platforms, telematics, and other online tools that require higher quality Internet will be able to benefit.
"The top traditional legacy operators will get one of the four blocks of spectrum of 10 MHz each, leaving one for newer nimble players such as AstraQom to bid on. The surprising prospect is a real game-changer for the newer providers and their current and potential customers," notes Jonathan Sowah, AstraQom's CEO. "We are on a roll in building our highly experienced, out of the box thinking team, as well as our pioneering and client-empowering services. We understand the situation of successful competitors to the big three, such as Wind Mobile, but such an opportunity does not occur very often, and we hope to take advantage."
Mr. Sowah adds, "USA FCC once noted that the 700-MHz spectrum is the 'last beach front property' in the wireless world. AstraQom is studying this windfall as the rules involved are disclosed by Canadian federal authorities. Again, this offer is for telecommunications companies that hold less than a 10 percent share of the total Canadian telecommunications market, and AstraQom is eligible."
According to the auction rules, at least four companies will be able acquire spectrum in each of Canada's 14 areas available for licensing. The additional announcement of the loosening of the restriction of foreign investment in Canada was the counterpart to the opening up of 700-MHz airwaves bidding. Of the over 200 members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, only three nations have restricted foreign investment in their telecoms sector ... Canada, Mexico, and South Korea.
The Honourable Industry Minister Christian Paradis stated, "The Harper Government understands that Canadian families work hard for their money and that they want their government to make decisions that will help them keep more of it. The measures I am outlining today will ensure the timely availability of world-class wireless services at low prices for Canadian families, including those in rural areas."
