Capstone Donates Nearly 10,000 Spanish Books to Latin America
Online, March 31, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Capstone, the leading publisher of children's books in the U.S. education market, has made a donation of nearly 10,000 Spanish books to the nonprofit organization Child Aid which will benefit thousands of children in Guatemala.
"The generous donation from Capstone Publishers will make a real and lasting difference. By putting quality books into the hands of children, we help them develop a love of reading, a passion for learning, and the tools to advance educationally," said Sam Hendricks, Child Aid Executive Director. "By supporting Child Aid's literacy program, Capstone is bringing educational opportunity to thousands of at risk children."
For more than 20 years, Child Aid has worked to fill an educational void for the poorest children in Latin America. The organization works with indigenous communities to create educational opportunities to help improve literacy. Books donated to the program included titles from the publishers' imprints Capstone Press, Compass Point Books, Picture Window Books, and Stone Arch Books.
"Capstone knows the importance of libraries - they are the heart of schools and their communities, and an invaluable center for learning. It's an honor to work with Child Aid, an organization committed to fighting illiteracy. Their efforts bring reading programs to thousands of children who are eager and excited to learn," said Lisa Hanson, Director of Human Resources at Capstone.
Capstone has a rich history of philanthropy in local communities and those abroad. In 2009 alone, the publisher supported more than 250 organizations' initiatives through book donations, sponsorships, and employee volunteer time.
