Using music and culture to fight crime neighborhood by neighborhood, the Caribbean Institute is bringing a community policing approach to New Orleans. The Caribbean Institute for Sustainable Development (TCI) is a non-profit (501c3) organization that strives to improve community well-being by raising the level of involvement in the culture economy and in community governance. TCI works with local businesses, community leaders, schools, local government agencies, community organizations, and civil society to bring people together for cultural exchange and to build strong, safe communities with healthy, growing economies.

"New Orleans already has all the traditions and cultural elements needed for strong healthy communities, and we are privileged to help use them to build stronger local governance in neighborhoods".

Bertrand Laurent, Chairman, The Caribbean Institute for Sustainable Development

After developing and successfully testing their innovative approach in high crime neighborhoods in Jamaica and other countries, an international group of senior anthropologists, economists, sociologists and development professionals created TCI to bring their experience to neighborhoods to New Orleans. "New Orleans already has all the traditions and cultural elements needed for strong healthy communities, and we are privileged to help use them to build stronger local governance in neighborhoods", says Chairman Bertrand Laurent, TCI's Chairman.
