Online, June 21, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Carl Eller, President and Founder of the Retired Players Association, will be meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and several key NFL owners in Chicago, IL on June 21, 2011. The focus of the discussions will be the current status of the negotiations during the NFL Lockout, specifically as it relates to the provisions for the retirees.
Mr. Eller, an All-Pro and Hall of Famer, is representing all the retirees in the Class Action lawsuit, Eller vs. the NFL. Eller who championed the separation of the retirees from the NFLPA has participated in all the previous negotiation/mediation sessions during the lockout prior to the Owners / current Players secret meetings. Eller believes these secret meetings are a threat to retiree programs.
The retirees main concerns are health care, pensions and disability claims. Historically, the NFL and the NFLPA have fallen far short in their ability to provide effective retirement benefits, quality health care, livable pensions and disability benefits for the retired NFL players. The media is awash tragic stories of these fallen heroes. While the NFL and the NFLPA have made some strides in recent years to improve the overall player care, there are still significant gaps which the retirees seek to address in their current Class Action litigation.
Eller is returning from a very successful and powerful gathering of NFL retirees who held a press conference in Washington DC on June 20, 2011 Eller feels the timing is right for taking the retirees message to Roger Goodell and the NFL owners. The Retired Players Association has demonstrated leadership, perseverance and skill in uniting the various retirees groups and is the "Go to Organization" for the retired players.
The Retired Players Association is providing a powerful national advocacy and meaningful support for retired professional football players, their families and the community at large. The RPA's specific area of focus is player health and wellness. This service is proving to be a significant asset in the retired players tool kit. The RPA provides financial assistance for members suffering from football related illnesses. Additionally, the RPA lobbies nationally for more comprehensive medical benefits for retired athletes.
