CBS RADIO Adopts Zipwhip to Increase Listener Engagement
Seattle, WA, September 22, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Zipwhip, a cloud texting platform and service provider, has aligned with CBS RADIO to make audience engagement easier than ever. The move allows listeners and on-air staff to engage in two-way SMS/MMS text conversations on existing studio call-in numbers.
CBS RADIO, one of the largest radio operations in the country, has launched Zipwhip across 39 stations and 15 major markets including New York, Los Angeles, and Houston. With Zipwhip, listeners don’t have to download an additional app; they simply use their current texting app.
“By adding texting to existing station numbers, CBS RADIO has shown further commitment to the ‘live and local’ mantra that has come to define the brand,” said Kelsey Klevenberg, Director of Market Development at Zipwhip. “Their team saw the opportunity to improve overall listener experience and they acted on it. Each market has specifically chosen to adopt this new school texting approach.”
The decision came as part of an effort to provide an alternate texting solution for stations that no longer wanted to utilize short codes. Short codes have traditionally been used for mass marketing, using 5-6 digit numbers instead of existing station phone numbers. With the launch, stations are providing listeners the flexibility to call or text on the same landline or toll free phone number the stations have always promoted.
“It’s all about making it easy and simple for people to actually engage, whether it’s to text in your request, enter a contest for tickets, or share thoughts about a local sports team or news event,” added Klevenberg. “It’s a solution for people who prefer texting as their primary form of communication, people who wouldn’t have engaged before.”
