Want to do something fun with the kids, make things, hear some Christmas stories and raise money for charity all at the same time? Come to the High Peak Garden Centre on the afternoon of 10 December and get into the Christmas spirit! And see below for the updated list of raffle prizes!

On 10 December 2011 between 2 and 4 pm, the High Peak Garden Centre, Hope Road, Bamford, is hosting a Christmas event, with the launch of a new pottery business, a raffle with some fantastic prizes raising funds for Hope and Hathersage Carelines, a chance to help to make a Nativity scene in clay, an appearance from Father Christmas, a local storyteller, and a tiny pony and trap, a festive menu at the cafe, and Christmas readings for adults and children.

The Griffin Pottery Studio opens its doors on 10 December for the first time, with the chance for kids to get their hands on some clay, making characters for a nativity scene. The studio will be selling hand-made pottery and will offer courses for adults and children, from absolute beginners to the more advanced.

Raffle tickets will be available from all businesses at the High Peak Garden Centre from now until 10 December and the draw will take place at the end of the afternoon. The proceeds will go to Hope and Hathersage Carelines. There are some amazing prizes (updated 25 November):

A half-day course at the Griffin Pottery Studio
A Christmas tree from the High Peak Garden Centre
A day's cycle hire for two from the Bike Garage
A home-baked cake from the Bay Tree Cafe
Cream tea for two from the Bay Tree Cafe
£10 vouchers for books from Tomes of Buxton
£10 vouchers for pictures and cards from CScapes

See the High Peak Centre blog (www.highpeakcentre.wordpress.com) for more on the Christmas event, or follow us on Twitter (@highpeakcentre). For more details, email [email protected]. The High Peak Garden Centre is at Hope Road, Bamford, Hope Valley S33 0AL.

Hope and Hathersage Carelines are voluntary groups that offer a daily telephone call to older and vulnerable people living in the area, providing the opportunity of a friendly chat and a listening ear every day. The services also arrange social events and provide a contact in emergencies.
