Celebrating 30 years with River Jam 2011 Presented by Grady-White Boats
The Pamlico-Tar River Foundation will be 30 years old this year so it's time to celebrate!
River Jam 2011, presented by Grady-White Boats has been extended into a 3 part event so we can thank our supporters and acknowledge this great milestone!
The Pamlico-Tar River Foundation is a grassroots environmental organization dedicated to protecting, monitoring and enhancing the Tar-Pamlico River and watershed while promoting environmental justice in the 16 counties that we serve.
The festivities start on Friday, May 20th at the Tipsy Teapot on Evans Street in Greenville from 8 - 12 AM. Bring your family and friends as we celebrate with delicious cupcakes donated by Your Perfect Cake in Greenville and listen to local favorites HuDost and The Revelators. A $10 donation will be gladly accepted to help support the event.
River Jam continues at the Greenville Town Commons on Saturday May 21sst from 2 PM to 9 PM. This event is in honor of the Tar River and will feature live entertainment, river trips, guided bike tours, a pig pickin' and much more!
Come down and paddle in kayaks and canoe along the Tar River for free, then have someone from the ECU Campus Recreation and Wellness Center bring you back to the event.
FROGGS will be giving guided biking tours of the Greenway, from the Town Common along the Tar River to Green Mill Run, then through ECU campus to First Street and back to Town Common. Be sure to bring your bicycle and helmet and sign up for the one of the tours going out at 3 PM and 4:30 PM. A walking tour will go out at 3 PM from the Common to the Dog Park and back.
Great Outdoor Provision Company will be there with a full fishing kayak set-up and experienced fishermen will be giving informal demonstrations.
Enter into the duck race, 1 for $5 or a "Quack Pack" 5/$20 and you may win a cash prize!
Local non-profits and environmental groups will be there to share more information about your community and surrounding natural resources.
Live music will be played from the stage from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM with Matt Walsh out of Statesville, Kinston band 8-Track and Greenville locals The Revelators.
Prior to 4:30 PM, enjoy acoustic entertainment along the common. Last year's River Jam performer Chambergrass will be delighting your ears as you wait for your family and friends to get off the river at the boat ramp.
At 5:30 PM be sure to get in line for a delicious pig pickin' with a sustainably-raised pig from Rainbow Meadow Farms in Greene County. Sides and beverage will also be served.
The night caps off with a lighted flotilla, so the river will glow for all to see. It was a big hit last year and shouldn't be missed!
That's not all! After River Jam, head over to Christy's Euro Pub on Jarvis Street in Greenville for the after party from 9 PM to 12 AM. The Revelators will be performing and it should be a great time with family and friends as we wrap up our 30th year celebration.
The River Jam 2011, kayak rides and Christy's Euro Pub after party are FREE to the community, so please bring the whole family! The Tar River is a beautiful natural resource that PTRF wants everyone to enjoy as a fun recreational outlet for fishing, boating or just goofing off!
Celebrate the river and PTRF's 30 years of protecting and preserving it on May 20 and 21st and enjoy some good food, lots of live music and support a great cause! Check www.facebook.com/pamlicotar for updated details as the event gets closer.
