Center for Carbon Removal Announces Release of Draft Report: Philanthropy Beyond Carbon Neutrality
Berkeley, CA, January 6, 2016 (Newswire.com) - The Center for Carbon Removal has announced the release of a draft of its report titled, “Philanthropy Beyond Carbon Neutrality: Unlocking the potential of carbon removal climate solutions.”
The draft report explains the urgent need to develop carbon removal (i.e. “negative emissions”) climate solutions, and it analyzes how philanthropies can ignite industry and policy action to support this emerging field. The Center is soliciting feedback on the report from interested stakeholders until January 31, 2016, and it plans to incorporate this input into a final report in the coming months. “The Center is committed to transparent and inclusive development of carbon removal solutions, and we plan to address all comments before publishing the final draft of our philanthropy report,” says Noah Deich, Executive Director of the Center for Carbon Removal.
Preliminary conclusions of the report show that philanthropies can have a large impact in the carbon removal field. The draft concludes that grants designed to help: 1) elevate the conversation on carbon removal among industry and policy leaders; 2) build the case for research and development and technology innovation across a broad portfolio of carbon removal solutions; and 3) identify and advocate for appropriate policy mechanisms to support carbon removal can generate high leverage by unlocking additional industry and government funding for the field.
