Cetrom Information Technology, Inc.: The Question of Cloud Computing for the Federal Government
Online, July 19, 2010 (Newswire.com) - On Thursday, July 1, 2010, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization, and Procurement held a joint hearing entitled "Cloud Computing: Benefits and Risks of Moving Federal IT into the Cloud." The hearing was focused on the Obama Administration's strategy for cloud computing services and technologies, implementation planning, the coordination of activities among various federal entities and other ancillary issues related to the government-wide transition to cloud computing. These hearings are resultant of "The Federal Cloud Computing Initiative" (FCCI), created in September 2009 by the Obama Administration, with the goal of modernizing the Federal government's $76 Billion information IT systems.
Industry panel representatives included personnel from Microsoft, Salesforce, Google and EMC Federal. "The federal government has to take a hard look at the cloud, and there is no better time than the present," says Christopher Stark, Cetrom IT President and CEO. "I am so pleased to see that the evaluation of cloud computing is now before formal committees in public hearings with highly credible experts in this field." Vivek Kundra, Federal Chief Information Officer, presented testimony that indicated that the goal of a government-wide strategy for the safe and secure use of cloud computing services is targeted for release by the end of calendar year 2010.
