Change Heroes Launches #MINGA for Mondaña Campaign
It takes 3 hours and 33 friends to build a school and one month to transform an entire Ecuadorian village - through teamwork, technology, and micro-giving.
Vancouver, BC, September 17, 2014 (Newswire.com) - On September 17, 2014, the social enterprise Change Heroes is launching a month-long campaign with one simple world that will change the way YOU give. The word is #MINGA: a term in the Kichwa language of Ecuador that represents the coming together of a community for the betterment of all. They’re starting with a #MINGA for Mondaña and they need your help to raise $1M over the course of one month and create massive impact in one of the Amazon region’s most vulnerable communities.
A #MINGA is the coming together of a community to conquer a project that would have otherwise been impossible. It is an Ecuadorian tradition and a word that does not exist in our language. The Change Heroes team is bringing it back to make massive social impact – and quickly.
Joining forces with their implementing charity partner, Free The Children, the month-long #MINGA for Mondaña is rallying groups of friends through their crowdfunding platform to raise $1M that will fund school houses, teacher housing, a library, alternative income programs, clean water projects, a healthcare clinic, and agriculture projects in Mondaña, Ecuador, a village that faces significant barriers to these resources.
This September, Change Heroes is looking for 100 people that want to make a massive difference in the world to lead mini-mingas: using micro-giving to raise $10,000 with 33 of their friends in as little as one day. Each of these mini-mingas will go towards funding the construction of various projects through Free The Children’s Adopt-a-Village program.
This easy and simple action will ultimately transform Mondaña and surrounding villages into efficient and sustainable communities.
Leveraging today’s technology and the massive power of small groups, Change Heroes campaigns wake people up to the impact of their contribution, even if it is just by giving up a latte per day.
The company’s founder, Taylor Conroy, 33, said that “Today’s world is intricately connected through mobile technology and social networks such as Facebook and Twitter - the perfect storm for us to get together and use the power of a #MINGA to help solve some of the toughest social issues in today’s society.”
The #MINGA for Mondaña is helping to introduce an act of collaborative giving that we participate in on a regular basis. Combining this ancient Ecuadorian tradition with Change Heroes’ accessible technology, the seemingly ‘impossible’ feat of turning Mondaña into a sustainable community suddenly becomes realistic with the collaboration of generous friend groups around the world.

About Change Heroes: Change Heroes is a social enterprise and online fundraising platform that is challenging the way we approach fundraising: making it simpler, more accessible, social, and fun. We are on a mission to wake people up to the power they have to create massive social impact. With a pioneered online friend-funding response to this challenge, our platform enables anyone to raise $10,000 with 33 of their friends to build a sustainable community project in a developing country through our implementing charity partner, Free The Children. Over $1.4 million has been raised to fund schools, libraries, scholarships, and water projects since our launch.
