Chaplain Barry C. Black is the 62nd Chaplain of the United States Senate. He was elected to this position on June 27th, 2003.

Chaplain Black is the first African-American to hold the office of chaplain to the United States Senate. Prior to this position, he served for more than 27 years in the Navy, rising to the rank of Rear Admiral.
A few of Chaplain Black's numerous awards include:
• NAACP Renowned Service Award
• Benjamin Elijah Mays Distinguished Leadership Award - Morehouse School of Religion
• Navy Distinguished Service Medal - Legion of Merit

Chaplain Black is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and alumnus of Oakwood University(formerly Oakwood College), Andrews University, North Carolina Central University, Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Salve Regina University and United States International University.

He has earned a Doctorate degree in Ministry, Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology and Masters degrees in Divinity, Counseling and Management.
