Chattanooga Electrical Inspectors Offer National Electrical Code Continuing Education Oct. 9-12.

The International Association of Electrical Inspectors TN Chapter will meet in Chattanooga for the annual convention Oct. 9-12. IAEI CEU seminars are great for contractors, electrical inspectors, PE's.

The Chattanooga IAEI is proud to host the 83rd annual Southern Section meeting and Code Conference, October 9-12, 2011 at the Chattanooga Marriott Downtown Hotel, 2 Carter Plaza. For conference information, go to the Section website at: www.iaei.org/southern, or visit the Tennessee Chapter Southern Section event website at http://www.southernsection.info.

IAEI offers the best face-to-face educational sessions, unlike internet classes that just teach you to memorize answers. These live seminars are the very best available, featuring interactive classrooms with industry experts and NEC code panelists. This year's CE seminars will include an optional program on Sunday afternoon on Solar PV requirements, a panel discussion on a variety of NEC requirements by a group of NEC Experts, a presentation on "Smart Grid" developed through an NFPA Fire Protection Research Foundation project to determine the impact of Smart Grid on current NEC requirements, a program to review the impact of the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code on electrical installations, and other industry and electrical safety topics.

Mike Evans of Electrical Systems Co, is an electrical contractor in Jackson TN, and has been coming to IAEI seminars for years. "At IAEI seminars we have the opportunity to actually ask questions of the experts in the electrical industry. There's no comparison to online classes, where you're only answering canned questions electronically" An important part of the seminars are the Code panel discussions on a variety of NEC topics where attendees will also have an opportunity to submit questions from the floor. "I find that I am exposed to areas of the code at meetings that I would not necessarily have sought on my own. I have also found that the inspector and representatives contact contractor members like me for opinions" says Evans. "IAEI education is also more affordable than private classes, typically 50% to 70% less".
The IAEI tradeshow is the place to see the latest innovations in electrical products and components, where you can ask questions about these products that most people never get a chance to ask. Attendees can find out about product certification, see demonstrations, understand how new products and services relate to the NEC. Mike Evans has also gained a lot from the IAEI Tradeshows. "We get to ask about new products and services, and in most cases hear the real facts, pros and cons and not just a commercial".

The Tennessee IAEI Chapter is working hard to make this one of the best electrical industry events in the regions this year. Amos Lowrance is a Sr. Electrical Inspector for the City of Chattanooga and is one of the main organizers for this event, and can be contacted at 423 757 4897 or [email protected]. The Tennessee Chapter contact for the tradeshow is Robert Grega 615 287 0500, and can also be contacted at [email protected].

The IAEI Southern Section includes TN, GA, OK, NC, VA, TX, FL, SC, LA, MS and AL. The IAEI is made up of electrical and building inspectors, electrical contractors, engineers, testing laboratory inspectors and technicians, utility engineers, electrical equipment and component manufacturing specialists and designers. The IAEI is very active in NEC code change proposals, and the Southern Section submits proposals regularly. Many of these proposals are eventually adopted as Code.
