Chattisgarh's Dr. C.V. Raman University wins award for Innovation in Open and Distance Learning in World Education Summit 2014

Chhattisgarh based Dr. C.V. Raman University (C.V.R.U), which is Central India's first private university has received felicitation for the best 'Innovation in Open and Distance Learning' in higher education category at the World Education Summit.

The award, which was announced during the 4th World Education Summit held at the capital’s Eros Hotel, was handed over to Shri Shailesh Pandey, the Registrar of Dr. C.V. Raman University by Mr. Ramen Deka, M.P. from Assam and Dr. Shabistan Ghaffar, Chairperson of the Committee on girls education and President of All India Confederation for Women’s Empowerment through Education.

Open and Distance Learning education system has shown a tremendous growth and response in the field of education for being student friendly. The 4th World Education Summit Award for the category of Innovation in Open and Distance Learning in Higher Education was aimed to choose the most innovative way of imparting education in ODL system. Dr. C.V. Raman University received the award for launching the first ever community radio station by a university in India named ‘Radio Raman’ with an objective to broadcast necessary educational and entertainment based content focusing on the basic rights of the local community in terms of education, health and law. The university was also recognized for introducing its online live lectures.

An overwhelmed Mr. Santosh Choubey, Dr. C.V. Raman University’s Chancellor, said, “It is an honour for Dr. C.V. Raman University to receive this award as we have been striving hard to take knowledge-based professional and higher-education to the unreached sections of the society in Central India through the use of information technology. We believe that technology has and will continue to have a significant impact on higher education. By getting this award our university has received a national level recognition for introducing the best innovation in distant and open learning not only in the scheduled tribe of Chhattisgarh but also in the national higher education horizon. We will continue our efforts to contribute in diverse ways to the local community, the state and the world.”

Established in 2006 in the scheduled area of Kota, Bilaspur, the University has transformed the region’s access to higher education and has empowered over thousands of students with industry-oriented skills in a short span of 8 years.  Being powered by India’s leading Education Group, AISECT, C.V.R.U has emerged as a premier science, technology and professional education institution. The University is recognized under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act and is the first university in Chhattisgarh to be awarded an ISO: 9001-2008 Certification.
