Cheaper Electricity Now Available for Maryland PEPCO Customers

Maryland PEPCO customers can now pay less for electric by switching to an independent electric supplier. Switching is easy, free and can save residents up to 20% on their monthly PEPCO electric bill.

Lower Electric Bill Today, an online provider of electricity news, rates, and information, announced today that Maryland PEPCO electric customers can transfer their service to a more affordable electric supplier to reduce their monthly bill by up to 20%.

A recent study conducted by the U.S. Energy Information Administration showed that the average retail price of electricity in Maryland is currently 14.65 cents per kilowatt-hour -- three cents higher than the national average. Due to a state government initiative known as electricity deregulation, however, Maryland residents and business-owners can now purchase cheaper electricity from independent electric suppliers offering lower rates.

"Our website, Lower Electric Bill Today, helps residents throughout Maryland and all deregulated states lock in lower electric rates from more affordable electric suppliers," said Christina Cleri, president of Lower Electric Bill Today. "Current PEPCO customers in Maryland, for example, can use our website to transfer their electric service to an independent MD electric supplier such as North American Power. This supplier's electric rates start at just 9.59 cents per kilowatt-hour -- that's 5 cents lower than Maryland's average electric rate statewide. Such a discount results in significant monthly savings for Maryland consumers."

Once a PEPCO customer transfers their electric service to a more affordable supplier, they will receive the reduced electric rate on their next monthly electric bill. PEPCO will continue to deliver electricity to the customer's home or business and will respond to power outages or other service-related issues. The independent electric supplier simply provides the electricity at a lower price.

"Many customers hesitate to transfer their service simply because they're afraid of change," Cleri said. "That's understandable, given the growing number of scams and gimmicks infiltrating our nation. Electricity deregulation is a government-approved initiative, however, meant to help consumers lower their electric bill and save money. Transferring to a more affordable Maryland electric supplier is 100-percent free. There are no penalties enforced by PEPCO after the transfer is complete. Consumers that switch their service will continue to receive reliable electricity to their home or business, but now, at a lower electric rate."
