Chicago Painter Inspired by Civil Rights Movement

Thriving Windy City artist Adam Thomas inspired by the passion of the Black Lives Matter movement to create a dramatic image of hope overcoming despair

Love Conquers Hate

Painted in highly contrasted shades of red, white and blue oil on canvas and finished as Gay Pride month gives way to Fourth Of July fervor, the backlit, vaguely heart-shaped cloud portrays what the painter sees as the overarching message of the conjoined civil rights struggles – loving one another.

As each month of the year 2020 heaps added fuel to many a proverbial fire, the painting, entitled “Love Conquers Hate” was created as a reminder that the civil rights movement is, unfortunately, not just something from a bygone era.

“There’s no better way to be patriotic in this country than to love Americans. Plain and simple. All of them, as hard as that sometimes is,” says Thomas. “I created this work as a call to everyone to keep their head high and not be disheartened. Love will conquer hate.”
