Children Without Borders Elects New Senior Staff

Online, February 8, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Children Without Borders, a 501(c)(3) organization providing medical care to children and health education to families in underserved countries, announces the latest editions to its staff. The charity's executive committee recently elected Jennifer Tegan as its new executive director and Christina Long Marin as the executive director of Central America operations.

Both Tegan and Marin will work closely with and report to the executive committee. Tegan's responsibilities will be primarily U.S. based and focused on fundraising and awareness initiatives as well as daily administrative tasks. Marin's efforts will be dedicated to fundraising and awareness projects in addition to the management and oversight of the charity's three clinics, staff and volunteers in Costa Rica.

"Both have a diverse set of skills that will help us raise awareness and funds for our mission of helping one child at a time."

For the past five years Tegan has volunteered with Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping provide children with the basic things they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn and valued. Jennifer worked with First Parish in Milton, Mass., since 2005 as an administrative coordinator managing internal and external communications as wells major fundraising campaigns. Prior to this, Jennifer worked as a special events coordinator for Williams-Sonoma and director of operations for event planning at a major health care organization in the Boston area. Jennifer is a graduate of George Mason University.

"I've been a supporter of Children Without Borders for some time and have admired their dedication to the children and families in the impoverished neighborhoods surrounding San Jose," said Tegan. "I'm eager to begin this journey and help promote all the great work this local charity is doing. There is still much to do, but I have every confidence that we can make a difference."

Marin brings a unique background and range of expertise to Children Without Borders. An award winning journalist, Marin worked as a political reporter at The Tico Times in Costa Rica for the past two years. She has also served as a correspondent for a multitude of local and international radio stations including Radio Dos, The Miami Herald, The Los Angeles Times, Reuters and The Christian Science Monitor. Before relocating to Costa Rica, Marin was a reporter for the Newton TAB and also as a correspondent for The Metrowest Daily News and Daily News Tribune. She is a graduate of Colorado College.

"I've seen first hand the positive impact Children Without Borders is having in the communities and for each child and family that turns to them for help. Having spent a great deal of time in the Boston area, I feel a deep connection to this charity and am proud to be a part of what it is doing in Costa Rica."

Within the last three years, Children Without Borders tripled its number of sustainable health care clinics in the suburbs of San Jose, Costa Rica, and joined forces with local and international non-profit organizations with similar goals. In addition to providing pediatric primary care, the charity offers psychological, eye and dental care as well as daytime child care and assistance during natural disasters. It also works with local health care facilities in Costa Rica to refer serious medical cases for specialized treatment. To date, Children Without Borders has helped thousands of children and families receive medical care and health education.
