Children's Winter Wear Recalled

Runway Global recalls girls' hooded jackets due to strangulation hazard

A recall has been issued on three styles of Sugarfly-branded girls' hooded jackets by Runway Fashions Inc. The jackets are outfitted with drawstrings in the hoods that could wrap around the necks of small children, creating a danger of strangulation. The drawstrings do not meet Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines.

The jackets are made of woven cotton and polyester and were available in girls' size 7-16. The drawstring goes through the hood. The following styles are affected by this recall:

Style Number KMCBJ255 - Olive-colored with zipper closure, four front pockets with buttons and two with zippers

Style Number KMCBJ410 - Belted and double-breasted French-style coat. Garment is white with a faux fur neck.

Style Number KMCBJ421 - A fuchsia or purple garment with button closure and snap-button side pockets.

The style numbers are printed on a sewn-in label on the inside neck of each style jacket. There have been no reports of injury as a result of this defect to date. Consumers who purchased one or more of the affected products should contact Runway Global at 855-248-1566 for more information.

This recall applies to about 820 units sold exclusively at Burlington Coat Factory stores. The retail chain is accepting returns on these items for a full refund, but they suggest simply removing the drawstring as a remedy, citing that the garments are functional without them and 100% safe.

"It's always good when the remedy is simple," said Drazen Alcocer, founder and CEO of iFederated, parent company of iRecalls.com. "This is a simple fix. However, left unreported, the risk of injury or death are enough to make this a legitimate concern. This is why iRecalls.com is such a valuable resource."

Artin Afsharjavan, iFederated Chairman, also made an interesting observation. "How many Burlington Coat Factory stores are there? They're everywhere," he said. "And even though this recall only covers about 800 of those coats, they could have been sold at any of those stores. iRecalls.com truly has the potential to save lives. Anyone who bought their daughter a winter coat at one of those stores in the last couple years is going to be checking those labels."

iRecalls.com is a growing community of concerned citizens who are committed to spreading the word about consumer product recalls of all description. The public is invited and encouraged to become part of that community at http://www.irecalls.com.
