Chiropractic Helps MS and Parkinson's Patients

Dr. Joe Borio from Borio Chiropractic Health Center in Cicero, NY states patients suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s disease have responded favorably to long term chiropractic care.

“MS occurs when the nerves in the central nervous system lose their insulating covering from either traumatic damage or an auto-immune reaction where the body’s own immune system attacks itself, causing lesions on the brain and spinal cord.” stated Dr. Joseph Borio.

A case study in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research in May 2001 reported a patient who had suffered from MS symptoms for 10 years, had decreased numbness and pain in her leg and hands after just one week of chiropractic care. After four months of chiropractic care, the patient reported a complete absence of MS symptoms. Over the next 12 months, with continued chiropractic care, the patient reported no MS symptoms and no new lesions of the spinal cord.

Another case study in the October 2000 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics reported a patient who was suffering from Parkinson’s disease for seven years, showed a vast improvement in symptoms with chiropractic care. The patient first noticed a twitch in his fingers and worsened symptoms over the next seven years. After three months of chiropractic care, the patient’s evaluation showed an improvement of 43% and over the next six months, he retained his improvements and continued to improve in strength, and muscle and joint flexibility.

“1.5 million Americans suffer from Parkinson’s disease, if they all began chiropractic care and only 1% improved, that would mean at least 15,000 people would be better off than before. Everyone, regardless of what disease they have or don’t have, needs to be under chiropractic care. It’s the only way to care for your spine and nervous system and stay healthy as possible.” stated Dr. Joe Borio.
