Los Angeles, CA - Moscow native OGOGO's Chocolate Ice-Cream EP is released on April 13, 2010 as a part of the Avant-Garde Series on III Records label.
While the title of OGOGO's ninth III Records album, Chocolate Ice-Cream, suggests that these are "sweet" songs, those who have come to admire OGOGO's work on his preceding eight albums for the label shouldn't be concerned.
To sum it up, this is OGOGO's unrestrained hallucination of music and he has the skills - as a guitarist, composer, and arranger - to realize it and make it an effortless listening pleasure.
None of these compositions could in reality be called "sweet" songs in any common sense in the world. Actuality, they are mad explorations that exploit various Russian music forms ranging from work songs, lullabies, and epic Sadko ballads to Russian Orthodox bells, as well as skomorokh songs and gypsy romances.
There are guitars on all tracks here, which are especially prominent on the title track closer, the gorgeous "Strip-search", and the charging "Music Beyond."
On top of it, diverse XX century musical styles, including early 1920s avant-garde experiments and synthetic chords, in addition to jazz and rock are emphasized.
Even with the poly-stylistic aspiration of Chocolate Ice-Cream, and its occasionally hectic unfolding, the album is rather easy to get into and delightful to experience to.
