Chris Muller Earns Honor for Literary Contributions to Contamination Control

Purafil's Technical Director, Chris Muller, was recently named the 2010 Willis J. Whitfield Award recipient.

DORAVILLE, GA- The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) recently selected Purafil's Technical Director, Chris Muller, as the 2010 Willis J. Whitfield Award recipient. The award is presented to IETS members who have submitted and amassed multiple published papers, studies, and reports highlighting contamination control.

Muller, a senior IEST member, admits, "This award came as a complete surprise, however, it's great to know that the work we have done in developing and promoting airborne molecular contamination assessment, monitoring and control has been so widely recognized."

During his 23-year tenure with Purafil, Muller has authored more than 50 papers, articles, and handbooks and conducted numerous seminars across the globe. As a result of his work, research and industry expertise, Muller was nominated by a fellow IEST member for this latest accolade. The IEST Board of Directors thoroughly reviewed his technical archive that spans more than 10 years, and approved the nomination's merit.

Among his accomplishments, The Journal of the IEST has published several of his papers including "Comparison of Chemical Filters for the Control of Airborne Molecular Contamination" in 2007. The paper won the 2008 IEST Maurice Simpson Technical Editors Award. According the IEST's website, the award is presented to the authors of the best technical papers published by IEST during the preceding year. Papers are critiqued based on technical quality, scope, and achievement; relevance to IEST activities; freshness of topic and approach; potential impact in the field; and contribution to IEST image and prestige.

Muller adds, "[Purafil] will continue to participate in organizations such as the IEST to stay current on contamination control issues in the microelectronics industry and to offer our expertise and guidance where required."

Established 57 years ago, IEST is a nonprofit technical society that recognizes its international members for their contributions to contamination control, design, test, and evaluation, and product reliability.
