Today, Cogent Energy Services announced Chris Simmons has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer.  Simmons has over 27 years of experience operating coiled tubing units and managing coiled tubing operations.  Under Simmons’ leadership, Cogent has increased its coiled tubing fleet to nine units operating in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

Simmons began his career in 1990 with Cudd Pressure Controls as an equipment operator in their snubbing and coiled tubing divisions.  In 2001, he joined C&J Energy Services.  As COO, Simmons was instrumental in the formation and growth of C&J.  He helped pioneer many coiled tubing operations now used in everyday operations, including using coiled tubing on a well with pressure greater than 3000 pounds, which, at the time, was the first of its type.  After C&J, Simmons was a Consultant for various E&P companies before joining Cogent in January 2017.

"Cogent has only been in the business since September 2016 and has already accomplished more than most companies do in years. We have created a dedicated team with a commitment to safety and excellence, and I look forward to the challenge of continuing to grow Cogent to be the best energy services company."

CEO Chet Erwin said, “Chris has shown exceptional leadership, expertise, and diligence in setting Cogent’s pace for growth.  His reputation in the industry, along with our other employees with similar industry tenure, brings instant credibility and has allowed us to make an immediate impact in the domestic upstream market.  Our brand and reputation are reflective of his vision and ability to recruit and execute on a world-class operations platform.”

Of the promotion from SVP of Operations to COO, Simmons said, “It is a privilege to work with such a talented, committed group of people.  Cogent has only been in the business since September 2016 and has already accomplished more than most companies do in years.  We have created a dedicated team with a commitment to safety and excellence, and I look forward to the challenge of continuing to grow Cogent to be the best energy services company.”

As COO, Simmons will lead the coiled tubing, workover rig, fishing, and reverse unit product lines for Cogent.  Cogent is headquartered in Houston and has branch operations in the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville.
