Churches See The Light With LED Upgrades
Online, July 19, 2013 (Newswire.com) - When commercial buildings go green, such as installing solar panels, upgrading lighting, monitoring energy usage, very few of us consider that one particular type of commercial building that is making a significant change, the local church. With an estimated 350,000 religious congregations across America, many are implementing even the smallest change with a big impact through energy efficient LED lighting.
LED lighting has many benefits other than the cost savings associated with using considerably less energy than the regular light bulb. In fact, a LED light will burn 6-8 watts or 329KWh a year, compared to the old-style incandescent light which burns 60 watts or 3,285KWh a year, causing the cost in electricity to drop from $328.59 a year to $32.85 a year per bulb. Additionally, the color quality of LED lights exceeds that of an incandescent or fluorescent light while lasting considerably longer, in fact on average 50,000 hours longer than an incandescent which has an average lifespan of 1,000 hours. For older churches, preservation is a major concern, by changing over existing lights to LED lights, heat emission is greatly reduced protecting the façade and art for generations to come and unlike incandescent and compact fluorescents, the LEDs operate in all temperature conditions and even thrive in cold weather.
Harry Zuker, Principal at uSave LED, a lighting manufacturer and wholesaler, is at the forefront of commercial LED lighting and works with designers to bring to market advanced and reliable LED lights. "uSave have introduced LED lights that allow you to direct the light horizontally for a wider beam angle, up to 360 degrees and most of our lights have a wattage savings of an average 70%, and in many cases saving you as much as 90% from your lighting electricity. For the exterior of a building, such as a church, we can replace the existing halogen, metal halide or mercury vapor lighting that that may have only lasted 1,000 hours with a more efficient LED light that lasts 50,000 hours, using 80% less electricity. Exterior wall washers are a big hit with churches lighting up the buildings in color and adding a glow to stained glass window when it is dark."
Harry continues, with solutions for inside churches. "Internally, specifically for the older churches that may have chandeliers, we have a dimmable bulb that uses 83% less wattage than the standard 40w candelabra and will last 50,000 hours. uSaveLED provides the absolute best lighting options on the market, backed by a 3-5 year warranty, this enables us to offer building owners, such as churches, synagogues and other religious buildings the ability to significantly reduce cost of materials and labor needed to change bulbs, reduce the heat emitted from the lights which may cause damage to older buildings seating, curtains, and furniture. LED lights significantly reduce their electric bills through lighting energy reduction and reduction from HVAC savings (up to 20%), and improve their lighting quality."
With such a reduction in energy usage through lighting alone, it is little wonder that the local church is upgrading to reduce cost and become greener. On private buildings there are various rebates available from both the government and electric companies, which will offset the initial cost of purchasing the energy efficient LED lighting, not to mention the ongoing energy savings immediately after installation. In many cases the LED lighting retrofit can be installed with a zero money down lease, that is cash flow positive from day one. Instead of paying the power company, a lease payment is made and the balance is savings to the bottom line.
