He walked into the restaurant and looked past the matre d' towards the woman seated with General Gage and Kate. Jonathan saw several men with smiling faces staring at the woman. He quickly agreed with their assessment, just to see her had a startling effect.
Her long, black hair cascaded down over the front of her white satin dress. He admired how the dress was cut with the slit midway to her thigh. Sitting down, she appeared to be a tall woman with a diamond choker around her neck. The smile on her face coupled with the dark eyes completed the look of a devilishly beautiful woman.
The matre d' interrupted his thoughts. "Sir table for how many?"
"I see my party," Jonathan answered, never once taking his eyes off the beauty in his sights.
"Hello, General Gage. It's nice to see you again." Jonathan picked up Kate's hand and softly acknowledged her. "Ma'am," he said, trying not to stare at the woman whose eyes and smile were just about to leave him speechless.
"Come on, my boy, drop the General bit. Jonathan, since you have been staring at her from the moment you walked into this place, we would like you to meet the daughter of a good friend of Kate's. Jonathan McClendon, meet Phyllis Johnson."
"My pleasure," Jonathan responded. He grabbed her hand, softly without letting go.
"I've heard an awful lot about you. Kate and my mother speak very highly of you," said Phyllis. "You look exactly as I've imagined."
Jonathan smiled. "I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage. It seems you know more about me than I do about you."
Phyllis chuckled. "As soon as you release my hand and by the time the evening meal is over, your military prowess will enable you to obtain enough information to put you more at ease."
