Thambo was concerned. His eyebrows had a high arc and the winkles in his forehead followed by beads of sweat displayed a worried look. The trial of Chieftain Aakintola Gomba was on a hot November day in at remote administrative outpost.

Chapter Three excerpts ...Thambo authored the bylaws for the Circle. A member had to pass three tests in order to gain membership in the secret society, and Nigel had failed the "test of life." After passing the "test of sacrifice and servility," Nigel was cocky and boasted of his plans to replace Chief Gomba. Failing the test of life meant disgrace and loss of power among the tribal leaders. Nigel wanted a second chance, but there were no second chances among the Circle members.
The government's plan was to show that Gomba, because of his enormous influence, had formed a rebel group committed to treason against South Africa's government. Nigel's role was to testify that he actually saw Chieftain Gomba administer oaths of conspiracy to members of the Circle.
It was time for the seven Chieftains gathered to discuss the fate of Chieftain Aakintola Gomba. It was an hour past dusk. This was to be their last meeting together. The South African government had stepped up its actions to discover their identities. Phase one of the conspiracy was completed and there was too much at stake to allow the government to interfere.
"Thambo, we cannot let Gomba come to trial, nor can we allow Nigel to harm our brother Chieftain," said Chieftain Ahidjo Samora of the Swazi tribe.
"I agree," said Thambo, "however, we must be careful not to expose ourselves or do anything that will bring to light our overall plan." He paused and looked down at the large blazing flame. The crackling sound of twigs and sparks from the freshly lit fire caused both men to raise their voices. "Now that phase one is in place, Abozuthu's spies have confirmed everyone is safe and will act when the time is right."
"We must somehow stop Nigel from testifying or allow our fellow chieftain Gomba to die with honor," shouted Abozuthu. He stood and stared at Thambo. "There's only one thing for us to do, and I, Abozuthu, chieftain of our fighting warriors, will rob Nigel of his ability to harm the Circle and its mission. I will nail his hide to a wag 'n bietjie tree!"
