The City of Sunny Isles Beach is now accepting applications for the new Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC), designed to advise the City Commission on matters of public art. Whether you are a professionally trained artist, engineer or urban planner, PAAC needs your affinity for art to help transform the City into a beacon of art and cultural diversity.

Committee members will work on a pro bono-basis and must possess qualifications in one or more of the following skills: visual or graphic arts, architecture and design, urban planning, public art and place-making curation, engineering, digital and display design and professionally trained artists.

We created a Cultural Master Plan to develop arts and cultural programming designed for the evolution and fruition of creative projects and spaces. We anticipate this new Public Arts Advisory Committee will further beautify what is already referred to as the 'jewel' of northeast Miami-Dade County, Sunny Isles Beach.

Chris Russo, Sunny Isles Beach City Manager

Members of PAAC serve two-year terms from Jan. 1, 2018, through Dec. 31, 2020. Five applicants will be selected to advise the Commission and make recommendations with respect to overall public art policy, methodology and selection of artwork to be placed on City-owned property, public arts projects and programs and other artistic-related tasks determined by the City Commission or City Manager.

“We created a Cultural Master Plan to develop arts and cultural programming designed for the evolution and fruition of creative projects and spaces,” says Sunny Isles Beach City Manager Chris Russo. “We anticipate this new Public Arts Advisory Committee will further beautify what is already referred to as the ‘jewel’ of northeast Miami-Dade County, Sunny Isles Beach.”

To apply for the Public Arts Advisory Committee, submit a letter stating your qualifications, interest in serving on this committee and willingness and availability to serve. File your letter with the Office of the City Clerk at 18070 Collins Ave., 4th Floor, Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160. The deadline for submittal letters is Jan. 1, 2018.

Committee meetings will be scheduled at least three weeks in advance and held on a mutually convenient date with no more than 10 meetings expected in any given year. Members must be willing to comply with procedures and requirements for all Sunny Isles Beach City Advisory Boards.

The City Commission reserves the right to expand their search beyond City boundaries, within Miami-Dade County, if the search within the City is not sufficient. For more information about the Public Arts Advisory Committee, call 305.792.1703.
