CityTeam Chester Announces New Executive Director
CHESTER, Pa., November 15, 2023 (Newswire.com) - CityTeam, a non-profit organization serving the low-income and homeless population throughout the greater Delaware Valley, announced Richona McKnight as the new executive director following in the steps of Kwinn Tucker, former executive director for over 10 years.
CityTeam Chester opened in 1987 as an extension of the west coast CityTeam, then only serving the San Francisco Bay Area. Originally the organization only provided meals, but soon after it offered safe shelter for homeless men, and then the long-term men’s program was added in 1993. In 2000, the Mother & Baby program began for at-risk local families.
McKnight began her relationship with CityTeam Chester in 2009 as a volunteer. Her passion for the organization kept her close as she participated in different areas of service, including working with individuals seeking employment support. She is a graduate of Cheyney University and Widener School of Law and became the Development Director at CityTeam in 2021, and has also volunteered with her alma mater and local churches. McKnight sees a positive future for the local community through the CityTeam programs and hopes to bring more awareness to what can be done to improve the lives of local individuals and families.
“Like the story of so many, my family has been impacted by addiction and lack of resources and our programs at CityTeam speak directly to my heart as a result of that. I’ve been in the unfortunate position of watching loved ones struggle to try to overcome addiction or financial insecurity alone, but I’ve also been blessed to see the incredible future a person and a family have when they allow their community to come together and support them in a healthy way,” said Richona McKnight, Executive Director of CityTeam Chester.
“CityTeam gives individuals the chance to be that supportive community, even when they don’t know how to best serve one another,” said McKnight.
“It has been a privilege to serve CityTeam for over 20 years and I’m proud to pass this leadership baton to Richona,” said Kwinn Tucker, former Executive Director of CityTeam. “Her relentless determination, compassion, and vision for the future will help bring CityTeam to the next phase of its service.” Tucker will be taking some time off in the new year before pursuing the next phase of her career.
CityTeam will be hosting its annual Thanksgiving distribution event on Nov. 18th where over 400 food boxes complete with a turkey, green beans, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, dessert, pasta and tomato sauce will be delivered to the community. McKnight will be available for a meet and greet with local media and community members over coffee and donuts from 8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Please RSVP to ensure time with McKnight during this festive event and learn more about her plans for the Chester community.
