"I was teaching social studies as a substitute teacher on Staten Island and planning to go into the New York State education system, but I couldn't get assigned a school. A friend of the family said to me, 'Don't you have your real estate license?' which I had gotten a few years earlier, just on a whim. He said, 'Why don't you come in and become my assistant? I'll show you the ropes.' That was in November of 1997. January 1st of 1998 I decided to take on real estate full-time because my mentor said, 'Claire, this is the single largest investment that a person has, so you must treat it with respect and you can't be teaching school; you have to put in 100%.' So on a wing and a prayer, that's exactly what I did."

As a thought-leader in her industry, Ms. Chesnoff is careful to stay on top of industry trends and developments which may affect her practice. Commenting on the state of the local New York City market, she noted:
