Clarence Darrow's Unpublished Handwritten Notes on Evolution to be Auctioned in New York

Clarence Darrow’s handwritten notes on evolution, written five months after the landmark Scopes “Monkey” Trial, will be auctioned in New York on May 15, 2015. The unpublished 6-page manuscript written by the famous American attorney will be sold by Lion Heart Autographs in an online auction hosted on the Invaluable.com auction platform and is estimated to bring a price of $9,000 - $12,000.

The December 1925 manuscript, containing notes for a lecture delivered a mere five months after the Scopes Trial which so captivated the nation, mentions evolution five times. The famous trial pitted Darrow against celebrated orator and former Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan, inspired the play Inherit the Wind and helped shape the evolution versus creationism debate that persists even to this day.

Founded in 1978, Lion Heart Autographs is one of the world’s leading sources for rare and important letters, manuscripts & inscribed photographs in art, history, literature, music, and science.
