Cloud-Based Doctor-Patient Portal Debuts at Blueprint Health Demo Day

"Patient Communicator" dramatically cut private practice overhead during two-year pilot project

After a successful two-year pilot project that cut overhead nearly in half for a small but very busy primary care practice, a cloud-based doctor-patient communications platform, Patient Communicator, has deployed into the private medical practice marketplace. The new patient portal debuted during Demo Day at BluePrint Health, New York's healthcare business accelerator and partner within the TechStars Network.

"After watching my father's solo practice strain under constant, labor-intensive patient communications, I wanted to find a way to relieve the administrative burden," said Patient Communicator co-founder Jeff Novich whose father, Dr. Robert K. Novich, has been a primary care sole practitioner in Westchester County for 33 years. "By automating basic interactions like setting appointments, sharing lab results, refilling prescriptions and addressing non-urgent care issues, we reduced incoming calls by 75% and office overhead from 45% to 15%."

The HIPAA-compliant messaging platform moves phone calls to the web, allowing doctors and staff to tackle non-urgent tasks far more efficiently. For a small monthly fee ranging between $50 and $125, doctors are better able to attract and retain patients by communicating with them how and when they want.

"It's the most engaging patient portal on the market," said Dr. Novich. "We've not only saved money and become much more efficient, our patients have been giving us great feedback. We're making more money and having more fun."

After a rigorous trial period using the platform with more than 900 patients, and incubating the business side of Patient Communicator within Blueprint Health, the patient portal is fully developed, deployed and already optimizing profits in solo and group practices.

"Patient Communicator fills a big need for small practices, which haven't had a secure and affordable solution like this until now," said Jeff Novich. "Though the large health management organizations have their own systems already, there are tens of thousand of small practices that need their own patient portal standard to not only streamline operations, but to comply with government incentives and subsidies driving the adoption of Electronic Medical Records."
