CM Labs Simulations Releases Vortex 6.3

New Vortex 6.3 simulation software release includes human character simulation, multi-role-playing capabilities, and more!

CM Labs Simulations has released version 6.3 of its Vortex simulation software.

Vortex is a platform for creating interactive vehicle and mechanical equipment simulations in realistic virtual environments, for engineering and operator training applications.

Along with an increase in the number of simulation creation features and mechanisms, the focus of 6.3 is on accelerating content development for both simulation and mechanical engineers.

Version 6.3 of the software includes Vortex Human, a new module that enables the creation and configuration of lifelike human characters such as construction crane signallers, offshore crane riggers, or other team personnel. 

Vortex Human characters interact with their environment—for example, by climbing stairs or ladders, pushing objects, or avoiding collisions—with lifelike accuracy and physics, thanks to the underlying Vortex Dynamics engine.

Additional capabilities in 6.3 include multi-role-playing for full team training 

Vortex Dynamics 6.3 also introduces a number of additional new features designed to make it easier to conduct immersive team training, while giving powerful new pedagogical tools to trainers.

Users can create different roles—such as tank driver and gunner, or crane operator and signaller—and dynamically assign these roles during training.

Instructors can assign roles such as signaller or operator to students before the training session, and change them at any time during the session. They can also take control of any of the roles at any time, or "fly through" the scene without being tied to any specific role.

Students experience visuals, sounds, and motion specific to their role, along with their equipment controls and screens. When roles change, sensory inputs adapt to the change, whether students are operating the equipment, performing an inspection, or signalling.

Along with new role-playing capabilities and Vortex Human, Vortex 6.3 includes real-time plotting functionality, graphics enhancements, and new subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) cables.

The new release also includes dozens of improvements to the Vortex Editor, CM Labs’ 3D editing desktop application for creating, modifying, and visualizing complex mechanisms and scenes within the Vortex simulation platform.
