Codex Releases New Analysis on why the iPad Will Succeed But May Cannibalise Its App Store Business

Following the widespread coverage of Codex's white paper "Apple Tablet Myths" ahead of the iPad launch, Codex has released follow-up analysis covering how the iPad will succeed and take market share from Kindle, but could kill off the App Store

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Boston, USA and London, UK - 2nd February 2010

Following the widespread coverage of Codex's pre-release white paper on "Apple Tablet Myths - The Impact of a Multi-Touch Enabled Tablet Device on the Market", Codex has released follow-up analysis, entitled "Standing on the Shoulders of the Kindle while Stabbing it in the Back" focusing on how the iPad will:

- Succeed due to the seamless delivery of apps and content via its ecosystem at a surprisingly reasonable price.
- Capture most of the Amazon Kindle's market share in the long term
- Erode its own App store in the medium to long term by offering a device that can deliver Software-as-a-Service (apps over the web) on a full size browser, with HTML5 capabilities.

The Codex white paper on the Apple Tablet was widely quoted following Apple's release by trade publications such as eWeek (http://bit.ly/55C9U6) and ChannelWeb (http://www.crn.com/mobile/222500026).

"We were holding our breath during the announcement", said Michael Oh, Director and co-founder of Codex Development Ltd., "but were gratified that our predictions and analysis held up. The emphasis that Apple placed during its announcement on content such as the NY Times, iBooks, and the compatibility of iPhone apps, reinforces our belief that the iPad will succeed due to its seamless ecosystem."
