CODINGCON 2012 Billing & Collection Agenda to Provide Tools for Effective Patient Collections
Online, June 16, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The conference will gather these healthcare professionals to meet the industry's unified objective of updating know-how in order to code more accurately, speed up reimbursements, stay in compliance and decrease or possibly eliminate financial loss in their practice.
The specialties to be featured during the conference include: Anesthesia, Ambulatory Surgery, Billing and Collection, Ob-Gyn, Orthopaedics, Otolaryngology, Pain Management, Pathology & Clinical Lab, Pediatrics and Urology. Each specialty may earn a delegate as much at 16 CEUs total.
The annual event, which is set for December 6-8, 2012 at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa has lined up industry experts, among which include veteran speaker, Vicki Pappas, CPC®, who will deliver sessions for the Billing & Collection specialty. Pappas is among the experts returning after a successful stint with CODINGCON last year.
Vicki Pappas, CPC® has been in the medical billing and coding profession for over 20 years. Her experience began as an every other weekend 3rd shift ED registration representative. Since the beginning she has climbed the professional ladder and has held positions in: Insurance verification, denials, check- in, check- out, billing, coding, Billing/Coding Manager and Practice Manager. Vicki has been employed with Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC since December 2006.
She is a Financial Analyst for the Heart Center and also oversees the coding for the Cardiac Catherization Labs, which include Electrophysiology and Peripherals. She is also the Physician and Staff Educator of Coding and Billing in the labs and works closely with the new fellows on documentation and coding issues. Vicki has taught Coding and Billing at the college level and has given numerous presentations regarding Cardiology Coding to physicians and coders. She is actively involved in her local AAPC Chapter and has held various positions including: President, Vice President and New Member Officer. She currently is the Co-Chairman of the North Carolina State Coders Conference.
In one of her conference sessions, "Effective Patient Collections ... Yes It's Possible" (1:00-5:00pm Thu., Dec. 6, 2012), Pappas will discuss such topics as: Health Care Statistics for 2011, Steps to Prevent Overdue Payments, Credit Cards in Today's World, Medicare Accounts Collections, The Dreadful Deductibles, Analyzing the A/R, ABN's and Medical Necessity, Company Websites and Payment Portals and Establishing Policies and Procedures.
Her other session is a much-anticipated one entitled, "The Art of Patient Collections ... Getting Patients to Pay" (10:15-11:15am Fri., Dec. 7, 2012). This is expected to provide conference participants with tactical and practical approaches as well as telephone collections and collection etiquette for optimal results for any type of practice.
She follows this up with "The Art of Patient Collections ... Managing Self-Pay" (11:15am-12:15pm, Fri., Dec. 7, 2012) to respond to several requests that relate to doing collections in-house. Delegates will be given an opportunity to take a collector self-analysis test before being provided with tools such as: Collection Letters, Skip Tracing, Credit Bureaus, FICO Scores and Credit Reporting
