Cogent Energy Services Opens New Permian Basin Yard

Clay Sears Promoted to General Manager

Cogent Energy Services

Today, Cogent Energy Services announced the expansion of its Permian Basin facilities with a new 7,500 square foot facility on 4.5 acres of land in Odessa, Texas. Heading the expansion and all Cogent Permian operations will be General Manager Clay Sears, a Midland resident who has been with the company since its inception.

The facility is on I-20 at the FM 1936 exit and was built to accommodate Cogent’s coiled tubing fleet, specifically its 2 3/8” unit which operates primarily in West Texas and New Mexico. With a large wash bay and three-bay shop complete with a crane, Cogent can more rapidly service all of its units, including a 1¼” and several 2” units that work in the Permian.

Cogent began with an acquisition in the Permian Basin. It was always our goal to expand our footprint and presence in the area with a facility of this caliber. This facility accommodates our growing brand.

The facility is complete with 5 offices and large conference room to support Cogent’s continued growth in the area. “Cogent began with an acquisition in the Permian Basin. It was always our goal to expand our footprint and presence in the area with a facility of this caliber. This facility accommodates our growing brand,” said Chet Erwin, Cogent’s Chief Executive Officer.

Heading the Permian operations is Midland resident Clay Sears. Sears has lived in the area for 4 years. Sears began his career as a landman, then moved into business development for energy services companies. “I am grateful for the opportunity to lead Cogent’s Permian operations and to work with this talented team. I look forward to not only continuing to provide exceptional service to our customers but to also expanding our operations in this area,” said Sears.

Sears was one of Cogent’s first employees and, for the last 2 years, has been responsible for business development in the region. “Clay brings extensive experience and knowledge of the operators and region. His understanding of the business and of the Cogent brand make him a logical and exemplary choice for this role. Cogent is fortunate to have him leading our Permian operations,” said Chris Simmons, Cogent’s Chief Operating Officer.

Headquartered in Houston, Cogent has steadily increased its fleet from 5 to 14 coiled tubing units by providing best-in-class equipment with a world-class service team. With experienced and dedicated leadership in each of its branches in the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville, Cogent is able to provide efficient, unmatched performance and dedication to safety on each and every job.
