Colitag™ Approved for the Determination of E.Coli Testing Under the Ground Water Rule

Colitag's revolutionary 16 - 48 hour Water Test Proved Effective Using the Alternative Test Procedure and is approved for the Determination of E.Coli Testing Under the Ground Water Rule

Santa Rosa, CA, CPI International a leading direct marketer, designer and manufacturer of innovative OEM and end-user solutions in analytical science and technology has been approved by the Office of Ground and Drinking Water for effective testing using the Alternative Test Procedure (ATP) of its revolutionary 16 - 48 hour water test.

The Ground Water Rule (GWR) was proposed in May 2000 (67 FR 65888) and promulgated in 2006 (71 FR 65574). Many of the methods proposed for use for E. coli determination under the GWR were the same as those promulgated for use under the Total Coliform Rule (TCR) (40 CFR 141.21(f)(6)) at the time of the preparation of the GWR proposal.

During the six years between the GWR proposal and promulgation, additional methods for E. coli determination were evaluated and approved for use under the TCR. Because these methods were not included in the GWR proposal, they were not included in the final GWR.

Modified Colitag™ was evaluated through the ATP process and also found to be as equally effective as Standard Methods 9221F for E. coli determination and was approved for use under the TCR (74 FR 57908, November 2009). Since modified Colitag™ has been found to be as equally effective as Standard Methods 9221F, which is approved under the TCR and under the GWR, modified Colitag would be as equally effective for use in E. coli determination under the GWR.

Colitag is the most versatile water test ever and boasts the widest approved testing window in the industry: 16 - 48 hours, greater selectivity for total coliforms and E. coli, a growth inhibitor for Aeromonas and Pseudomonas and is US EPA Approved for use in the Most Probable Number (MPN) format provided that the sum of all individual portions of the sample total 100mL.

Colitag is the only U.S. patented system that definitively tests for both MUG-positive and MUG-negative E. coli. That means accurate results without the concern for false negative readings.

Colitag automatically resuscitates and detects chlorine-injured bacteria, resulting in the most complete, highly sensitive tool for regulated site testing. Using a simple, ready-to-use medium combined water samples, Colitag delivers results you can count on with complete certainty.

Colitag is approved for Most Probable Number (MPN) format as specified in Standard Method 9221 for compliance monitoring of total coliforms and E. coli in drinking water.
