Online, May 14, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Camaro ZL1 was first released in 1969. That year 69 Camaros were produced with ZL1 all-aluminum racing engine. These 69 Camaros came to be known as the pinnacle of Camaro performance.

Back to the present, the 2012 Camaro ZL1 is all set to build on its predecessors legend. The 2012 ZL1 is equipped with a supercharged LSA V-8, producing 580 hp and over 550 lbs of torque from its 6.2 liters. This Camaro is forged of the same power that rips up drags strips, but its amazing driveshaft and differential with asymmetrical half-shaft, give it the handling to maneuver the most challenging of road courses.

While the original ZL1 had a brilliant style, the 2012 model has a fantastic look in its own right. The lower fascia dotted with brake cooling ducts and four fog lights, and has a large splitter and wide-mouth intake. To help downforce, Chevy has made the domed hood aluminum with a louvered carbon fiber center section. The ZL1 also marks the introduction of a new electric power-steering system. Weight is said to be about the same as the Camaro SS's-the stronger driveline added weight, but some was pulled out with stuff like the wheels and hood, so it's roughly a wash-which puts this top-spec Camaro at 3900 pounds or so.
