College Promise Campaign Celebrates Three-Year Anniversary With a View to the Future

This week marks the three-year anniversary of the College Promise Campaign. Programs are underway in 44 states, including 24 statewide programs for youth and/or adult residents. These robust programs remove financial barriers and increase student access and success. In doing so, hundreds of thousands of students are taking advantage of an accessible, affordable, high-quality education.

This week marks the three-year anniversary of the College Promise Campaign (CPC). CPC is a nationwide movement to build broad public support for quality College Promise programs in communities and states. More than 200 programs are now in place, including recently launched programs in major cities such as Boston, San Francisco and Providence, Rhode Island. Just this year, 11 more states have enacted College Promise legislation or executive actions for their residents, recognizing further education as a return on investment.

The College Promise National Advisory Board, led by Dr. Jill Biden, a renowned community college professor, and Governor Jim Geringer (R-WY), former governor of Wyoming, continues its bipartisan commitment to students, institutions, communities and states. Martha Kanter, the campaign’s executive director, reflects on the last three years with an eye to the future: “We will work tirelessly to gather the latest data, research and policies to demonstrate the impacts of College Promise programs that have the potential and evidence leading to higher levels of achievement, advancement in the workforce and a happier, healthier future for students, local communities and states.”

Today, College Promise programs are underway in 44 states, including 24 statewide programs for youth and/or adult residents. Their local leaders and state officials have designed robust programs to remove financial barriers and increase student access and success. In doing so, hundreds of thousands of students are taking advantage of an accessible, affordable, high-quality education without the burden of unmanageable debt.

Over the last three years, more College Promise programs have included innovative pathways for adult students striving to achieve their full potential. This has prompted the engagement of the private sector into the Promise movement as employers seek to recruit, retain and promote top talent.

Throughout the week, the College Promise Campaign will be celebrating Promise Program Champions, including partners, students, veterans, elected officials and employers.

About the College Promise Campaign:

The College Promise Campaign is a nonpartisan, nonprofit higher education initiative that builds widespread support for funding the first two years of a community college education for all hardworking students. In the 21st century, a high school diploma is no longer enough to lead Americans to a good job and decent quality of life. CPC is an initiative of Civic Nation, a 501(c)(3) organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. Learn more about the College Promise and the campaign at CollegePromise.org.
