College Promise Campaign Takes the Stage at SXSW EDU 2019

The College Promise Campaign Vice President touts the proven economic and human impacts of tuition-free college at SXSW EDU 2019. "A hundred years ago, we made high school free and accessible to all. It's time for us to look at the next phase of education with an eye on global competitiveness and prosperity."

The College Promise Campaign takes the stage today at SXSW EDU 2019 to discuss the growth and importance of the College Promise movement. Rosye Cloud, Vice President of Strategy and Innovation for the College Promise Campaign, will be highlighting innovative higher education solutions that can be leveraged to meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy. With over 7 million unfilled jobs in America, the College Promise Campaign is focused on connecting Americans to economic opportunities.

CPC will kick off the day with a screening of the 2018 documentary, Unlikely, which sheds light on the growing college dropout crisis in the United States through the compelling stories of five students that are fighting for a second chance at a college education.

A hundred years ago, we made high school free and accessible to all. It's time for us to look at the next phase of education with an eye on global competitiveness and prosperity.

Ms. Rosye Cloud will then moderate Fulfilling the Promise of Talent—a policy forum highlighting the innovation, importance, and successes of the Dallas County Promise. Cloud joins experts from the Dallas area to discuss critical takeaways on leveraging tuition-free college to develop crucial college to career workforce pathways for the state of Texas, and for developing regional strategies to building successful Promise programs throughout the country.

“Dallas County is committed to developing a world-class talent pipeline that creates equity in outcomes for students, families, and communities,” Eric Ban, Managing Director, Dallas County Promise.

Finally, CPC will end the day with a screening of the 2018 documentary, Personal Statement, which tells the inspiring stories of three high school seniors that step up and act as high school guidance to their peers. This film highlights the importance of high school counseling services for college access particularly for low-income and first-generation communities.
