Comcast Partners With SABEResPODER to Help Fight Digital Divide Amongst Hispanics
Los Angeles, CA, May 9, 2017 (Newswire.com) - A digital literacy campaign will provide technology and internet access to Latino families over the next three months. The initiative is a production by SABEResPODER (SEP), a URWelcome Technologies platform, made possible thanks to Internet Essentials from Comcast.
The campaign will feature a computer lab that will travel the Greater Houston area, providing a total of 65 two-hour workshops aimed at developing basic computer skills among low-income Spanish-speaking residents. Nearly 800 unique individuals are estimated to benefit from this innovative partnership supported by Comcast's nationally acclaimed high-speed internet adoption program for low-income households, Internet Essentials. In addition, a digital campaign will aim at raising awareness of the Internet Essentials program, as 96% of SEP's community members are unaware of its existence, yet at least 60% could qualify.
"This initiative is an innovative way to connect the Latino community with more online resources. Providing access to the internet and technology education helps community members overcome barriers."
