Comedian Teaches ADHD Seminar at University of Wisconsin Madison

ADHD Seminar Series @ University of Wisconsin in Summer 2010UW-Union Minicourse was developed by comedian-turned-motivational-speaker Nick Mortensen.

MADISON, WI - June 14, 2010

The University of Wisconsin Union will partner with a former winner of "Madison's Funniest Comedian" contest, Nick Mortensen, to offer Mastering Your ADHD - a weekly mini-course beginning June 24, 2010. The focus of the series is in developing the effectiveness of individuals living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

This 4- Session Course Will Examine:
* What ADHD is and what ADHD isn't.
* Undiagnosed ADHD is and how it drives the behavior of famous people.

* Medications frequently prescribed for ADHD & their effects/side effects.
* Common lifestyle and thought patterns of the many living with ADHD.
* The prejudice surrounding ADHD: How it discourages people from seeking diagnosis & how it can be overcome.
* Depression & Anxiety; How they relate to ADHD.

* How to harness basic ADHD tendencies to create personal success.
"Within a year of being diagnosed with ADHD, I went from the low levels of club comedy and open mic nights to headlining small theaters that seated 200-300 people," says course instructor Nick Mortensen. "My material wasn't any different. What changed was how I saw myself. Educating myself on the topic of ADHD has empowered me to believe that I can achieve anything by simply using the gift of my ADHD. If I can do it, I think anyone with ADHD can do it. I honestly believe ADHD is one of the hidden forces at work in the world today. "

Mortensen stepped away from comedy in mid 2009 to seek out training in the art of motivational speaking and develop this program aimed directly at the ADHD audience.

"The problem with information on ADHD is that all the information on the topic seems to be contained within books," Mortensen explains "For people with ADHD, that is just about the worst place. They may buy a book on ADHD, but they can always find a reason not to read it immediately. Before long, it is another in a series of incomplete projects and further proof that they are all talk and no action. I developed Mastering Your ADHD with the idea of positioning myself as the Anthony Robbins of ADHD, only instead of being corny - being wildly inappropriate. People with ADHD can smell a phony a mile away and they are almost always inappropriate. Bringing the sensibilities that I had as a comedian into this pursuit should make for a great experience for everyone. "
Note: Anthony Robbins is the famous motivational speaker and author of several self-help books. As a comedian, Mortensen was known for his edgy style & material.
Mastering Your ADHD is a 4 session course aimed at helping people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder understand ADHD and tap into their unfulfilled potential. This initial offering is through the University of Wisconsin and open for registration to the general public. It meets on Thursdays from 6:00p.m. to 7:30 pm (Central Standard Time) from June 24th to July 15th, 2010. Class number is 3330.101.
