Comfort for Critters Delivers 11,000 Blankets for Homeless Pets!
Online, July 23, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Comfort for Critters, a not-for-profit based in Chicago, IL, is thrilled to announce they've reached their goal of delivering 11,000 hand-made blankets to animal shelters across the US! They currently support over 70 shelters in 13 states, with the list growing daily.
Comfort for Critters is a 100% volunteer program that creates hand-made blankets for all types of homeless pets living in animal shelters. While these animals await adoption, the blankets provide a comfortable bed year-round. When they are adopted, their blanket goes with them, providing something familiar as they adjust to their "forever family". Cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, Fennec foxes, fancy rats and more "critters" are comforted by this group.
This organization began in 2007, when their founder adopted "Anna" from the DuPage Animal Control Shelter (Wheaton, IL) and began making blankets for all the kittens which she couldn't take home. They formalized as a NPO two years later, and began tracking their blanket shipments. "I used to think 1,000 blankets was a lofty goal. I just can't believe we've shipped 11,000 blankets, in really just three years," says Linda Kastiel Kozlowski, the organization's founder.
From a handful of ladies working to support a single shelter, they now have over 100 active volunteers. They are an all-volunteer group, which also works with area retirement homes and facilities for disabled-adults, providing free yarn and pickup/delivery service. "The blessings just multiply as we expand to allow more people to get in on the fun," says Kozlowski.
As with most NPOs, there's always a need for more supplies and more hands. You can learn more about this organization by visiting their website at www.ComfortForCritters.org.
