CommonAngels Is Now Converge
Cambridge, MA, November 2, 2015 (Newswire.com) - CommonAngels Ventures, an early stage investor, has changed its name to Converge Venture Partners. “We wanted to reflect more accurately our mission to bring together entrepreneurs, Venture Partners, and capital for success,” said Maia Heymann, Senior Managing Director of Converge. “Two years ago we began to transform our investment model to a fund; now with the clarity of capital of a fund- and a dedicated investment team making the decisions- our process is fast and clear, to better serve the entrepreneur. We’ve put the entrepreneur at the center of what we do.”
Since its founding in 1998, CommonAngels has been at the forefront of institutionalizing and professionalizing angel investing. It was one of the first formal angel groups in the United States and one of the first to incorporate. Currently, Converge is working with 42 companies.
Converge Venture Partners will continue to invest in early stage software and technology startups in the Northeast, but with a new model. Decisions are made quickly by the full-time investment team; companies are then supported by one or two of the relevant 60 active Venture Partners, current or former entrepreneurs themselves in the technology sector. “The landscape for early stage capital has become more confusing for the entrepreneur,” said James Geshwiler, Managing Director of Converge. “Our model makes the fundraising process efficient and easy for the entrepreneur, be they a first timer or even someone on their 3rd startup. Plus, our deep Venture Partner network can furnish connections, expertise, and additional capital, if needed.”
Nick Francis, CEO and Co-founder of Help Scout, a Converge portfolio company, noted, “The Converge team has been my most trusted partner, especially during our fundraising process. David McFarlane, a Converge Venture Partner and a software entrepreneur for over 25 years, is now a member of my Board. He has been an incredible resource as we scale our business.”
