Computer Lab Solutions Creates Mobile Page Tutorial For LabStats Users
Computer Lab Solutions has created a step-by-step tutorial for lab managers on how to set up their own LabStats mobile-friendly page for students and staff at their respective schools and universities.
Online, November 9, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Computer Lab Solutions has recently developed an XML API that allows users to develop web pages from real time LabStats information about their labs. A tutorial has been released detailing how LabStats customers can make this data mobile-friendly so it can be easily viewed on the smart phones of students and staff on their respective campuses.
Travis Sage, a Technical Support Engineer for Computer Lab Solutions, created the application due to the increasing inquiries from clients on how to create their own LabStats mobile page.
"I wanted customers to have as much access to their lab statistics as possible," said Sage. "I noticed that a lot of customers wanted the ability to incorporate the real time availability of their labs into their own web pages. For the past couple of years we have provided this capability with a JavaScript interface. I decided to create an XML based interface as well to provide even more flexibility to our customers."
The tutorial suggests users add a special xml-client.jsp page (downloadable at the Computer Lab Solutions website) to add to their LabStats installation. Users will then need to create their own web page that accesses the API, and the tutorial supplies the necessary codes. The codes help users to set up a web page that looks like other LabStats pages, takes care of referencing the necessary libraries to use the XML functionality, captures the XML data, and outputs that information into an easily readable table.
"LabStats is all about delivering useful information to lab managers and students. I created the XML interface so that customers could have more control on what they do with that information. Now customers are empowered to present the availability of their computers on their own web pages," said Sage.
