Contractors Return Home Reinvigorated After IECCon17

Over 1,300 electrical and systems contractors and suppliers converged on Phoenix for IECCon17, Oct. 25–28. The convention featured 24 standing-room-only education sessions presented by industry experts, an interactive Expo featuring over 80 vendors, exciting networking events, and more.

IECCon17 began with this year’s Keynote General Session, “The Xbox Story: Lessons in Leadership, Strategy & Team Management,” presented by Robbie Bach, former chief Xbox officer. The session emphasized the need for a culture and how to develop one. Robbie explained through stories of his time at Microsoft how they transformed the Xbox failure into the Xbox 360 success by changing the team’s culture. Robbie’s stories and strategies helped create blueprints for contractors to create productive culture and mission.

IECCon17 closed out with the announcement of the IEC National Apprentice of the Year Competition winners at the President's Reception & Awards Gala. The three-day competition placed the top graduates from 25 IEC chapter apprentice training programs across the country in a head-to-head competition to discover the top electrical and systems contracting apprentice in the U.S. In an extremely close competition, IEC of Greater Cincinnati apprentice Matt Doth of BizCom Electric edged out the rest and was recognized as the IEC National Apprentice of the Year.

"This year is special to us, as IEC is currently celebrating its 60th anniversary," stated Spenser Villwock, IEC National CEO. "That is why we had to throw our biggest convention ever. Some of the best contractors and industry professionals from around the country joined us in Phoenix for a week of enrichment and investment in their businesses. We are grateful to our Premier Convention Sponsor, The Home Depot, and all of our supporters and contractors for making this year's IEC Convention truly epic!"

As our annual convention continues to grow, so will its value. Join us for the 2018 IEC Convention & Expo in Indianapolis.
